Garbage/Recycling
Waste Management (WM) is the refuse disposal provider for the City of Abbotsford. Each residence is provided with one (1) garbage cart and one (1) recycle cart.
Carts are emptied weekly, West of Hwy 13 on Thursday and East of Hwy 13 on Friday. Carts must be placed three (3) feet from any other objects (mailboxes, poles, other cars, etc.), and cart handles should be toward the house.

Bulk Items
Sometimes you have an item that just won’t fit in your garbage can. If you have furniture, carpet, a mattress or some other large item you wish to discard, contact WM at 1-888-960-0008 to schedule a bulk item pick up.
Hazardous Waste
While Waste Management does not handle household hazardous waste, we want to be sure all waste is handled with care and attention to protecting you and the environment.
The following household hazardous waste items should not be placed in your regular garbage:
•paints
•motor oil
•fertilizers
•fluorescent light bulbs
•aerosol cans
•batteries
•cleansers
•insecticides
•along with other household hazardous waste
Electronic Recycling
According to the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), Americans now own approximately 24 electronic products per household. And as people scramble to get the latest and greatest gadgets, they leave behind a large number of outdated, unwanted products we call electronic, or “e-waste,” which can create a big problem environmentally.
The City is partnering with a local resource to provide a "White Goods Collection" day. Date, time and location will be advertised on the electronic city sign, in the local shopper, and flyers will be available at city hall as well as sent out with the utility bills.
Brush Pick-Up
FIRST TUESDAY OF EACH MONTH (MEMORIAL DAY – LABOR DAY)
The following rules and explanations apply to the disposal of brush, leaves, and yard waste:
Cut branches greater than 4 inches in diameter and piles larger than 8 feet long 3 feet high and 12 feet wide will not be accepted. A tree service or other means of disposal is required.
- Cut ends need to be placed toward the curb or street.
- NOTE: This is not meant as an entire tree trimming service! Only one 8’X3’X12’ pile per pick up day!
- Leaves and yard waste can be taken to the mulch pile at the old landfill site located at the end of 8th St/Galvin Rd.
- No stumps may be disposed of at City site.

Leaf Pick-Up
Leaf pickup is generally near the end of October. Exact dates will be announced once set.
Leaves should be piled in the street gutter.
NO BRANCHES OR OTHER DEBRIS SHOULD BE MIXED IN WITH LEAVES!
If branches or other debris found, the leaves will not be picked up.
Remaining leaves after the last leaf pickup date can be hauled to the City dump site located at the end of 8th St/Galvin Rd.
If leaves are placed in gutter after last leaf pick up date, a fine may be issued.
These dates need to be scheduled a year in advance, and unfortunately there is no way to know when the leaves will all be off the trees. The City appreciates your patience and understanding in this matter.
